What's your favorite brand?

A brand is part of the meaning system of a product or service. Brand refers to the value added to a basic product or service. In this sense Starbucks isn't just a cup of coffee, it is the "place" between home and work. It is the latter that refers to the added value. So perhaps it's not surprising that a recent survey identified the following as the most trusted brands:
1. Johnson & Johnson
2. Sony
3. Apple
4. Colgate
5. Microsoft tied with 6. Coca Cola
7. Toyota
8. Nike tied with 9. Bank of America
10.Target tied with 11. Dell

How does this list gel with your own list of most trusted brands?

The list of brands above definitely coincides with my own personal list of trusted brands. For example, Apple is a brand I would have on my list as well. Since I own an Apple computer, I have come to trust Apple as a company. Apple is not just a name, it means much more. I think of Apple as stylish, new, young, innovative, and exciting. On another note, my computer holds numerous important things, such as my photos of family and friends, my school work, and my emails, which all have significance to me. I associate all of these positive memories and hard work with my Apple computer.

Nike is another brand I have come to trust. I love to run and work out, therefore leading me to buy sneakers, and of course I turn to Nike as my brand of choice. I have been buying Nike sneakers for years and have always had great experiences with their products, so I have really come to trust their brand. Nike is not just a brand; it reflects what type of person I am. Nike’s slogan “just do it,” portrays a certain attitude. Nike targets athletes that work hard at their sport or to stay in shape. I definitely think Nike has an established name that many people would consider trustworthy.

Upon my first look at the top ten most trusted brands, I did not think the list was a strong reflection of me, and the brands I use the most. But then as I really examined the list, I realized that these brands are in fact brands my family and I use every day.
For as long as I can remember my parents have purchased school supplies for my brothers and me from Target. Every Christmas, my brothers get the latest Sony game system and Sony video games to go with it. Before coming to Loyola and purchasing an Apple computer, I always used Microsoft computers at home and in my high school. On top of all these brands from the list that I use, I just walked into my bathroom to check which brand of toothpaste I use. Turns out its Colgate!
Wow, this list is pretty accurate. I use and trust 7 out of the 10 brands.
